By Grade 1, many kids can read simple words but still write them slowly or with letters of all sizes. Tracing helps them practice sizing and spacing. Words such as said and was are tricky to spell by sound, so seeing them often matters.
Use More sight words as the main sheet. Each word has a solid model and then dashed copies to trace. Number words, from one to ten, are a nice change and link to the math they are doing in class. Words like eight can be hard to spell, so give those extra time.
Pay attention to how your kid forms letters. Do they start at the top? Do tall letters reach the top line and small ones stay at the middle? Gentle fixes now are easier than breaking habits later. If your kid gets tired, stop at three words and come back tomorrow.
When a word traces easily, ask your kid to write it once without the dashes, then use it in a spoken sentence. If First sight words still feel new, it is fine to go back to them. There is no answer key, since the goal is neat practice.
