Rounding asks your child to swap an exact number for a friendlier one nearby. It is a skill they will use for estimating, checking answers and later for money and measurement. In Grade 3 the goal is simple: find the closest ten or hundred.
Start with Rounding to the nearest 10. Each problem shows a number, an arrow and an empty box for the answer. The easy level avoids tricky endings. Once that is steady, try Rounding to the nearest 100, which asks your child to look at the tens digit instead.
The hard level includes numbers ending in 5 or 50, the ones that sit exactly halfway. These are where kids hesitate. The rule they need is to round up at the halfway point, so 35 goes to 40 and 250 goes to 300. Teach it as a rule rather than a guess.
A number line on scrap paper helps more than any trick. Draw two tens, mark the middle, and let your child see which end the number is closer to. Move to the next level after a sheet with only one or two slips, and keep the earlier sheets around for a quick refresh.
