Long division is a lot easier for a child who already knows that 72 ÷ 8 is 9. That is why Grade 4 is about fluency first. Each step of long division is a small basic fact, so every fact your kid knows cold saves effort later.
Begin with the basic facts sheet at the medium level, with divisors up to 10. If answers come fast, try the hard level. It uses divisors up to 12 and answers up to 12, so 144 ÷ 12 can show up. The 11 and 12 divisors are usually the hardest, so expect some slow answers there.
On the hard sheets, some problems hide a number. A problem like __ ÷ 6 = 7 asks for the starting amount, and 54 ÷ __ = 9 asks for the divisor. Both go back to times tables. Ask your kid which multiplication fact would help.
If one divisor keeps causing trouble, use the single-table sheet and set that number in the generator. Ten problems on dividing by 9 is a focused way to fix one gap. After that, go back to the mixed sheet.
