Name tracing worksheets for Kindergarten
Kindergarten teachers expect kids to write their name on their own work. These sheets use the name you type and fade the model row by row until your kid writes it alone. Add a family name once the first name feels easy.

By Kindergarten, many kids can already write most of their first name. The work now is making it readable and steady. Letters should be a similar size, sit on the line and have a little space between them.
Type the name just as you want it written, with a capital at the start and small letters after. The sheet repeats it on each line. The first copies are solid, then they get lighter, then they are dashed, and the final line is empty. Start at the medium level, with eight rows, so there is enough practice without a long page.
Watch the sizing. A common problem is a name that starts big and shrinks, or crowds into the edge of the page. Point to the guide lines and ask where each letter should end. If the capital is no taller than the small letters, trace over it slowly and talk about the extra height.
When the first name is comfortable, make a second sheet using the family name, or both names together. Longer names are a good challenge because they test spacing. Keep them for a day when your kid is rested. A name written alone on the blank line, without a model, is a sign they are ready for the next step.
