First graders usually count well already, so counting sheets here have a different job. They give a calm, quick start before addition, and they practice keeping accurate track of larger groups, up to 20 pictures.
Use the write sheets at the hard level, which goes from 10 to 20. If your kid is rusty after a break, drop to the medium level first. The write version has no choices to guess from, so each answer comes from a real count.
The best trick at this age is counting in groups. Ask your kid to circle five pictures, then another five, then count what is left. Counting 5, 10, 15 and then a few more is faster and cleaner than going one by one. It also sets up the idea of tens and ones.
When your kid can do a full sheet of 10 to 20 without slips, it is time to move on. Try addition sheets next. Counting two groups of pictures and joining them is a natural bridge. Five minutes of counting before addition is plenty.
