Most Kindergartners can already count to 20 or more by ones. Skip counting is the next small leap. Instead of one, two, three, they say two, four, six. It sounds like a song, and that is how many kids learn it.
The 10s are usually easiest, since they land on numbers that end in zero. Counting by 5s comes next and has a clear pattern of 5 then 0. Counting by 2s asks the most, because the numbers keep changing and kids have to track them.
Begin with counting by 10s or 5s, whichever your child already sings along to. Each row has several boxes, and some are empty. Your child writes the missing numbers into the gaps. Say the whole row aloud together before writing, so the rhythm helps.
Writing numbers is hard work for small hands, so do not rush. If a row feels long, read it aloud with your child and let them fill just the gaps. When counting by 10s and 5s is steady, add 2s.
